Birds are my area of expertise as I have always had a great fascination
for their elegance, colour and beauty.
Eduardo Cruz is a taxidermist with a professional license granted by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, in July 2017. He owns "Arte Natural Criações", with studios in Odivelas, the town where he lives, and in Nazaré.
Eduardo Cruz's passion for taxidermy stems from his childhood, when he "discovered" birds. Their plumage and variety of colours have always enchanted him.
In his youth Eduardo Cruz accompanied his father on several hunts and began to feel the need to preserve the hunted specimens as a way of keeping them "alive" close to him.
This is how he began his research into the art of taxidermy and started to carry out his work, naturalising the birds that came into his hands from different sources. He has never stopped!
"He is moved by a true affection and respect for nature.
He places all his knowledge, art and mastery into each job."
In 2008, feeling the need to learn more and more, to increasingly better his work, in the purest respect for nature, reproducing it, he took a course with American taxidermist Tom Hilyer.
Eduardo Cruz is a specialist in the naturalisation of birds. What distinguishes him is the fact that he treats each specimen entrusted to him as a true work of art. Even when the specimens arrive in a less good state, he reinvents the art and puts feathers where they no longer exist and bone structure where it has been crushed, experimenting with new techniques and new products!
